Frequently Asked Questions
How many working days before a hearing must I file my court bundle?
Under Family Court Practice Direction 27A, bundles must be filed no later than 7 working days before the hearing. Employment tribunals typically require 14 calendar days. Civil courts (PD 39A para 3.1) require the trial bundle between 3 and 7 days before trial. Always check the specific directions given in your case.
What counts as a working day for court deadlines?
Working days are Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays in England and Wales. When calculating deadlines, you count backwards from the hearing date, skipping weekends and bank holidays. The hearing day itself is not included in the count.
What happens if I miss a court bundle deadline?
Missing a bundle deadline can have serious consequences. The court may refuse to consider late documents, adjourn the hearing (potentially with costs against you), or draw adverse inferences. If you realise you will miss a deadline, contact the court and the other party as soon as possible to seek an extension.
